Ok, may be some of you prefer title “Forget I was ever an Italian Team fan” today, but that would be negative.
So I stand by my title, even though today was heartbreaking and disappointing and embarrassing to some of you.
Even non-Italians learned to admire passion and devotion that Squadra Azzurri instills on their fans. If you live in Toronto or Woodbridge, you know how they support their team! Their hearts beat in unison during those 90 minutes of the game, whether they are 5 or 95 and it’s they are full of pure happiness when the team presents them with victory. Remember home-made flags the size of a parachute? Kids driving around by 12 in every car, hanging out from every window and honking the horn until it’s busted? The ones too little to be allowed to go for these crazy drives are on every street corner, waving flags and cheering to every passing car. Other nationalities admit that Italian soccer fans taught them how to party. No other team has fans scouting shops for official team jerseys 4-5 months prior to next World Cup in order to show their support, and pride, and commitment.
But let’s be fair, we can’t have it every time, other fans should have a chance to shout something at the top of their lungs too. We’ve already had that exhilarating moment more than most, and last time only four years ago. And four World Cup trophies is a really great reason to keep wearing that blue jersey with four stars proudly regardless of today. There will be next World Cup and there will be a party on our street again! Forza!
